Join thousands of visual artists and claim your share of millions of pounds in Payback royalties

Payback 2020 is now open. This year we’ve launched with a brand-new website, making it easier than ever for artists and beneficiaries to claim their share of royalties.

How it works

For many working artists, Payback is the first DACS service they encounter. It’s a scheme which pays artists annually when their artworks have been published in UK books, magazines or on TV.

Since its founding in 1999, we’ve paid out £55 million in Payback royalties. Artists claiming in 2019, received a share of £4.7 million with individual payments of up to £600 for books and magazines and up to £3000 when also claiming for TV.

How to apply

Our new Payback website makes the process of claiming your royalties simpler and faster.

What last year’s claimants say:

It’s well worth taking the time to look at Payback, if you create artwork that is published in the UK.

A lovely surprise when I logged into my bank account to pay a bill (boo!) to find a payment there from DACS (yay!) Their support for artists makes such a difference, and not just a financial one.
