Call to support statement advocating for fair AI training

DACS has signed a new statement addressing the impact of unlicensed Artificial Intelligence (AI) training on creators. The statement, signed by over 10,000 artists, writers, and organisations, has been published by The Guardian.

The statement calls for artists, creators, industry leaders, and the public to unite in support of responsible AI innovation. DACS is among the signatories, affirming its commitment to protecting creators' rights.

“The unlicensed use of creative works for training generative AI is a major, unjust threat to the livelihoods of the people behind those works and must not be permitted.”

It highlights the need to respect creators' rights and ensure they are fairly compensated when their work is used to train AI models. This collective initiative comes at a crucial moment, as the UK Government considers an ‘opt out’ model for AI training and is being led by Ed Newton-Rex, formerly of Stability AI.
