British IP Day reception highlights the role of IP in driving UK growth
Yesterday, key figures from across the UK’s intellectual property (IP) landscape gathered in Parliament to mark British IP Day with a special reception, underscoring the vital contribution of IP to the nation’s economy.
Hosted by the Alliance for Intellectual Property, the event brought together rightsholders, industry leaders, creators, ministers, government officials and Parliamentarians to discuss how robust IP policy can support the Government’s growth agenda. The reception came at a critical time, with the Government’s Spending Review, Industrial and Trade Strategies, and Sector Plans all set to be published in the coming months - presenting significant opportunities to champion the role of IP in driving economic growth across the UK.
DACS was delighted to be joined at the event by members William Cobbing and Ella Murtha, representing the estate of the celebrated photographer Tish Murtha. Their presence highlighted the essential role that artists play in enriching the UK’s cultural life and economy, emphasising why strong IP protections are so vital.
The Alliance, which hosted the event, represents 23 organisations spanning sectors such as audio-visual, music, publishing, software, sports rights, toys and games, branded goods, retail, design, art and image licensing. Together, these industries continue to significantly contribute to the wider economy, illustrating the tangible impact that effective IP frameworks have on growth and jobs in every region of the UK.
As a member of this vibrant community, DACS is proud to support initiatives that promote the value of IP and ensure that creators’ rights are protected - helping artists continue to contribute powerfully to the UK’s cultural and economic success.
