This blog post presents a summary of content produced as part of the Art360 Foundation Programme (2014 to 2025). It is shared here with the intention of preserving and extending access to the important learnings from this programme of work.

This seminar asked: how does art allow us to think about memory and place?

Speaking on the panel were curator Matthew de Pulford, artist Katie Harea, artist-curator Benjamin Sebastian, and conservation architect Sam Causer. The discussion aimed to bring together people and perspectives that may help reimagine the future of artist-led spaces. It considered these questions:

  • What and who ‘makes’ a place?
  • What happens to the artist communities that use and come together in a space?
  • If a place ceases to exist what’s lost? What can be kept?
  • How vulnerable are culturally important places to destruction and erasure?
  • How can places be preserved, shared and continue living?

The event, organised by Art360 Foundation, was supported by the British Art Network.
