Dear [insert MP’s name here],

I am a visual artist based in your constituency and I am writing to you because I am concerned about the future of the Artist’s Resale Right (ARR).  I would like to seek your support in securing its future, by asking you to write to the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, the Rt Hon Jeremy Wright QC MP, and the Minister of State for Intellectual Property, Sam Gyimah MP seeking reassurances that it will be retained in UK legislation following Brexit.

The Artist's Resale Right provides artists with a small percentage in royalties when their work is resold on the secondary market, for over $1,000. Although artists only receive a modest amount in ARR royalties, they are a significant and essential part of many artists' incomes. [Insert detail on how Artist's Resale Right royalties help you and your practice.]

Since 2006 DACS, the UK’s largest collecting society for the visual arts, has distributed over £65 million in ARR royalties to over 5000 artists. After surveying its members, it knows that 81% of artists are said to spend their Artist's Resale Right royalties on living expenses, while 73% spend their royalties on art materials. ARR royalties keep artists creating.

As you know, the UK is a global leader in the creative industries, and arts and culture are one of our greatest exports. The UK Government must support the artists and creators upon which this growing sector of the ec0nomy depends. Guaranteeing the future of ARR will send the powerful message that the UK values artists and creators.

I hope you are able to play your part in securing the future of UK creativity, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

[Your name]
