Bio
His early sculptures were influenced by Surrealism and primitive art. He started working with steel in the 1960s as the strength of the material allowed him to create more open forms. His work was included in both the 1952 New Aspects of British Sculpture exhibition at the Venice Biennale and the trailblazing 1956 group exhibition, This Is Tomorrow, at the Whitechapel Art Gallery. Turnbull is considered one of the great British post-war artists and his work can be found in numerous public collections.
