Bio

Penelope (“Penny”) Slinger was born in London and currently lives in Boulder Creek California. She uses a variety of media including photography, film, paint and photo-montage to explore the human journey through life and time.

Perhaps best known for her surrealist interpretations of the female, Slinger uses her own experiences to look at connections between eroticism, mysticism, feminism and art. Slinger’s practice is constantly developing, which has helped her to transform surrealism, bridging the gap between the subconscious and the superconscious.

Slinger graduated from the Chelsea College of Art, London in 1969. She has exhibited internationally, including at XXI Bienal de São Paolo, Brazil (1973), Surrealism Unlimited, Camden Arts Centre (1978), Threat, Broadway 1602, New York (2011) and Penny Slinger, Blum & Poe, Tokyo (2015). Slinger has also authored and illustrated a number of publications including 50% The Visible Woman (1971) and An Exorcism (1977) among others.
