Let me introduce you... Joanna Cave is Chief Executive of DACS. She originally trained and practised as a sculptor before turning her hand to the role of chief executive in arts, education and legal organisations. Joanna has spoken and written extensively on copyright and the visual arts. She is Vice Chair of the British Copyright Council and a trustee of the BALTIC centre for contemporary art. .So what is it you do exactly? Lead the team of talented individuals who have made DACS the extraordinary organisation it is today. Career high point? Persuading the government to change its mind and implement the Artist's Resale Right in a way that genuinely benefits artists. Worst job you've ever done? Working for a minor celebrity with a major ego. If you were Minister for Culture for the day what would you do? Commission Spencer Tunnick to orchestrate one of his fabulous events in which the entire UK population is compelled to be naked together for 24 hours. What's your guiltiest pleasure? Watching sumo wrestling on TV with commentary by Brian Blessed. Desert island art work? Hooks in the Wind by Eduardo Chillida. People you would most like to bump into at a private view? Cleopatra, Bill Nighy, Caravaggio, Dolly Parton, Barak Obama, Bill Nighy, James Kirkup & Dorothy Parker. Did I mention Bill Nighy? Copyright turns me on because... it is a genuinely sexy subject. Tell us a secret! I used to work in a convent. |
