Q. I would like to post my artwork online on a social networking site. Are there any copyright issues I should be aware of?
A. Social networking sites can enable visual creators to post content online, share their work with others and reach a wider audience. Despite such apparent opportunities, it is important that you are fully aware of any potential copyright implications involved in uploading your artwork onto the site.
There are many social networking sites out there but whichever site you choose to use, it is worthwhile checking their terms and conditions before uploading content. It is only by reviewing their terms and conditions that you will become aware of any licensing issues involved.

copy your work in certain formats without paying you a fee? Could your work subsequently be incorporated into another work? Could your work be used to promote the networking site, either now or in the future? What happens if you decide to remove your work from the site at a later date?
These are just a handful of the issues to consider. The key message to remember when using social networking sites is to read and scrutinise the small print before posting content online. By doing this you can ensure your artwork will be adequately protected.
